A hundred new hotels will be built in the centre of Moscow by 2010, Sergey Baidakov, prefect of the Central District of Moscow said . The hotels are supposed to accomodate 30,000 people at a time. The project is aimed at a sharp deficit of tourist beds in the city. The prefect noted that only 20% of the new-built hotels will be 4- and 5-star. The rest will be 3-star and are supposed to accomodate mass tourists as the main task of the project is to promote tourism. At a whole more than 248 hotels would be completed across Moscow by 2010.
Now the hotel infrastructure in Moscow leaves much to be desired. Now there is about only 180 hotels that can host a total of 70,000 tourists in the city. Domestic tour operators turn down some 30 to 50 percent of potential clients because there are not enough hotels to house them. When largest Moscow's hotels Rossiya, Moskva and Intourist closed, the city had lost some 5,000 beds close to Red Square.
