The Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree on the transformation of the “Stolby” state natural reserve into the “Krasnoyarskiye Stolby” national park. According to the explanatory note attached to the decree, the reserve is a place for recreation and sports of the residents of Krasnoyarsk, Krasnoyarsk Territory and other regions.
“Currently, the flow of tourists makes up about 700 thousand people a year, and a part of the reserve’s territory is actually used as a national park. The decision will create legal grounds for providing special protection to natural complexes and objects included into the borders of the national park”, as the message said.
The “Stolby” State Nature Reserve is located in the suburbs of Krasnoyarsk on the northwestern spurs of the Eastern Sayan Mountains. It was founded in 1925 in order to preserve natural complexes around the picturesque cliffs - syenitic residual mountains.
