Polar Goose Has Set World Altitude Record For Airships

Russia airship Polar Goose has reached 8-km altitude Thursday, mass media report. Its owners claim the ship to set world altitude record for air ships.
      The airships pilot name is Stanislav Karelin, who is famous for setting the national altitude record of 7239 m in 2004.
      The previous world record of 7.3 km belongs to German aeronauts. The Polar Goose was equipped with an onboard recorder, which is now forwarded to the International Federation for Aeronautics for deciphering and official registration of the record.
      The Polar Goose is an experimental thermal airship. Its flight has been performed within the High-Altitude Start programme of Russian Air Forces, which is aimed at designing the launch airship system for light spaceships.
