Austria will return to Russia several pieces of ancient art reived away by the Nazis during World War II. The Salzburg Museum will return three amphoras and five tombstones to Russia. Those museum exhibits date back to the 4th and 5th centuries BC.
The Salzburg Museum authorities had previously been aware of these controversial exhibits, but their ownership of the Temryuk Historical-Archeological Museum in the Krasnodar Territory was confirmed in the course of preparation for the exhibition “Anschluss, War and Ruins: Salzburg and its Museum during National Socialism”.
The ancient artifacts will be returned to the Russian museum in the autumn of this year, 2019.
