In 2018, the number of sentences imposed by Russian courts with regards to economic crimes has increased by 20%, as compared to 2017.

A total of 7,700 people were found guilty of committing economic crimes.

The economic section includes the articles of the 22nd chapter of the Criminal Code from the 169th article “impeding lawful entrepreneurial or other activities” to the article 200.6 (knowingly false expert statement in the sphere of purchase of products, works, services for state and municipal needs). Economic crimes include illegal registration of a legal entity, laundering of criminal proceeds, tax evasion, etc. The growth in number of convicts according to economic articles is associated with the appearance of certain articles in the Criminal Code concerning illegal production, trafficking or sale of alcohol and alcohol products.
