The film "Dylda" directed by Kantemir Balagov will participate in the 72nd Cannes Film Festival.
The film is nominated for the Queer Palm prize, which is awarded to the best LGBT-relevant films.
“Dylda” tells the life story of two female participants of the Great Patriotic War, who returned to Leningrad in 1945. The plot is partly based on Svetlana Alexievich’ book “The War’s Is not a Woman's Face”. Actress Victoria Miroshnichenko and Vasilisa Perelygina played the leads in the film.
"Dylda" is the second feature film of a 27-year-old director who graduated from the Alexander Sokurov Studio. His debut film titled Closeness was demonstrated in the Special View section of the Cannes Film Festival and won the FIPRESCI prize.
The film Dylda was produced by Alexander Rodnyansky, who mostly collaborates with film director Andrey Zvyagintsev, without the support of public funds.
