Flight tests of brand new Russian carrier vehicle “Angara” in the Plesetsk launching site are scheduled for 2010-2011.
According to the head of the Plesetsk launching site, flights are expected to begin with testing unified systems and devices for the whole family of eco-friendly “Angara” carriers – both light and heavy vehicles.
Assemblage of the heavy carrier vehicle allows launching space ships to higher orbits, than they are launched today, and with greater working load.
“Angara”’s launching pad consists of 16 elements, which weigh between 20 and 50 tons, and is 14 m wide and high and over 5 m high. Unified launching complex allows putting working loads of 26 tons (“Proton” carrier launches only 20 tons) to low orbits and working loads of 4.5 tons to geostationary orbits.
“Angara”’s engine RD-191 consumes kerosene-oxygen mix and is ecologically friendly.
