Russians save on food, however, they buy furniture, cars and medicines. Retailers are announcing a decrease in the average purchase amount. According to the retailers’ data which are confirmed by the results of the last survey held at the order of the Central Bank, Russians are still not inclined to spend too much money. Sales networks have recorded a decrease in the average purchase amount in the third quarter of 2018. Kirill Tremasov, the Director of the analytical department of “Loko-Invest” company, wrote about this in his MMI Telegram channel.
“The decrease in the average purchase amounts for X5, Magnit and Lenta made up 0.2–0.4% year-on-year, whereas food inflation in the third quarter made up 1.6% year-on-year. The two leaders, X5 and Magnit, have negative dynamics of the average purchase amount year-on-year, this trend has been observed for the second quarter in a row”, he notes. This means that, despite the increase in prices, every time people come at the store, they spend a little less money than earlier.
