The Archeology Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported that the discovery dates to the first quarter of the 5th century BC.
A Corinthian type bronze helmet used by soldiers during the times of classical Greece has been unearthed by scientists of the Archeology Institute, RAS, in the course of excavations of burials of the 5th century BC on the Taman Peninsula in the Krasnodar Territory. This is stated in the Institute's published report.
“The helmet belongs in the Corinthian type, the Hermione group, and dates back to the first quarter of the 5th century BC. The only helmet of the kind in the territory of the former Russian Empire was found in the Kiev Province in the mound near the village of Romekovka in the middle of the 19th century. Such helmets have never been found in Greek cities of the North Black Sea region before", - the leader of the expedition Roman Mimohod is quoted in the message.
