The town of Uglich of Yaroslavl Oblast has been included into the “Golden Ring of Russia” tourist route. The Governor of Yaroslavl Oblast Dmitry Mironov assured that the inclusion of Uglich into the “Golden Ring of Russia” route will give the city and the entire tourism industry a new impetus for development.
In 1967 the Journalist Yurii Bychkov commissioned by the “Soviet Culture” newspaper went to the ancient towns of the Vladimir Oblast, he decided not to come back after Suzdal, but turned towards Yaroslavl, driving in a closed circuit route by car. After that he published a series of essays about this journey under the title “The Golden Ring of Russia”, which gave the name to the route. The route includes the towns of Sergiev Posad, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Rostov the Great, Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Ivanovo, Suzdal and Vladimir.
