Gorky Park in Moscow to Be Venue for Shrovetide Celebrations

Visitors of the festival venue will run around in sacks, listen to live music, play petanque, and enjoy other traditional entertainments.

In Gorky Park they have already begun to prepare for the Pancake Week celebrations. This year celebrations are scheduled for 17 and 18 February. On those days, the park area will be decorated with several art objects.

Thus, a luminous rubber sun, as large as six meters in diameter, will be set up near the main entrance gate. An 8-meter-long Maslenitsa man of straw will appear on Pushkinskaya Embankment. At the end of the feast, the dummy will be burnt, according to a centuries old tradition.

Popular musicians and performers will play on stage nearby. On the park alleys there will be installations such as Tower, Labyrinth, Flames, and Flowers. Visitors will be offered various traditional entertainments at a special area.
