The program of cruises on the nuclear-powered icebreakers of “Atomflot” FSUE from Murmansk to the North Pole may be extended, as the Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development of Murmansk Oblast Olga Kuznetsova reported.
“Last year a fear was expressed that these cruises would be frozen for a while after the enhancement of activities on the Northern Sea Route, however, according to the latest information, they are extended until 2019, and the issue of extending them until 2035 is being considered at the moment” - the Minister said at the conference titled “Arctic Sea Tourism as a Driver of the Development of Murmansk Oblast” within the framework of the Murmansk International Business Week.
Kuznetsova added that the program of cruises on nuclear icebreakers remained stable: five cruises per year were sent on the “50 Years of Victory” nuclear-powered vessel to the North Pole from Murmansk in the years 2016 and 2017, respectively.
