Moscow Kremlin: far away, so close

A unique chance to visit Moscow Kremlin without leaving home given to anyone interested in Russia. An internet-site Open Kremlin: A Virtual Tour is launched. It offers visitors a peek inside the Kremlin's storied streets and squares, the Senate Palace, the Grand Kremlin Palace, the famous chiming clock Kuranty on Spasskaya tower and other objects and rooms. Even the clockwork of Kuranty can be seen in detail. A bird's-eye views of the Kremlin complex are among several images on the web site that went up Wednesday. Visitors can change sight angle "turning" a virtual camera with a mouse. All objects can be moved nearer or further either for details or for general view.

Each image on the site is accompanied by historical commentary read by movie star Alexei Batalov. Unfortunately only in Russian language for now and accessible only on computers with Windows operating system. Most virtual tour images take some time to load, and many of them crash frequently. We hope that soon all technical problems would be solved and an version of the site in other languages available.
