Russian banks are going to introduce customer identification by selfies. This was reported on Tuesday, July 25, by “Izvestia” referring to the representatives of Sberbank, VTB 24, SMP Bank and Rosbank.
Binbank, Citibank and “Ak Bars” are also considering the possibility of launching such a system.
According to bankers, the innovation will make it possible to conduct remote verification of citizens in any transactions - from applying for a loan to working with current accounts. Customers will be allowed to send their selfies and passport photos by e-mail, which will eliminate the need to come to the office. The experts on cybersecurity reported that the use of photos made by cheap smartphones might cause problems with customer identification.
