Petersburg police detained about 500 people, who  took part in an unsanctioned rally on the Champ de Mars on Monday.

In total, according to law enforcement officials, 3,500 people took part in the action in the northern capital. Among them there were many schoolchildren and students. The event was not agreed with the authorities.

At 18.45 (Moscow time), 731 people were detained in Moscow, "OVD-Info" reports.

The detainees Anton Shaposhnikov and Mikhail Davydov from the Lublino police department were taken to the Investigation Committee for suspicion of attacking policemen with pepper spray.

The action in Moscow was agreed with the authorities - citizens were allowed to "walk" through Tverskaya without slogans and posters.
