The European Broadcasting Union will consider the possibility of Russia's ineligibility for the EuroVision Song Contest in 2018. The decision will be made after the contest in Ukraine this year.
"The show itself is the main priority now. Any decision on what actions to take about the current situation will be taken only after the event", - representatives of the EBU point out.
According to the current rules of the contest, Russia may be barred from sending its representative to the competition next year because of the country's refusal to broadcast EuroVision 2017 show on TV.
On April 13, the First Channel of Russian TV refused to broadcast Eurovision because the Security Service of Ukraine had banned the Russian singer Yulia Samoylova from entering the country for three years. The pretext for the ban was the singer's performance in the Crimea.
The European Broadcasting Union condemns Ukraine for that act, which is not in line with the contest's freedom from politics.
