The Central Bank has revoked the licenses from 463 banks during ten years (since January 1, 2006). This was reported by the regulator on Friday. The largest number of banks was closed in 2015 – 93 banks, 86 were closed in 2014. The least number of all licenses was revoked in 2011 – 18 of them and 2012 – 22 of them.
Last year the regulator expelled 34 banks involved in money laundering and illegal withdrawal of funds abroad from the market. In 2015 there was a growth in the number of credit institutions which lost their licenses because of poor financial situation. For example, 29 banks have ceased activities due to the loss of capital, compared with 14 banks a year earlier. At the same time the proportion of financial institutions that have lost confidence in the Central Bank due to stable insolvency has halved - from 26 in 2014 to 13 in 2015. According to the CB, 656 credit organizations worked in Russia as of September 1, 2016.
