The outstanding Russian conductor celebrated anniversaries of Dmitry Shostakovich and Sergey Prokofiev with concerts in Stockholm.
He conducted symphonic orchestras of the Mariinsky Theater and the Swedish Radio. The concerts dedicated to the Russian classical composers' jubilees celebrated in 2016 took place on August 30 and 31.
The Mariinsky Orchestra headed by the maestro played the Suite by Sergey Prokofiev, whose 125th anniversary is widely celebrated by world music community.
The concert tour took place in the framework of the Baltic Sea Music Festival, Valery Gergiev being one of its founders.
The cultural event was founded by the outstanding Russian director jointly with the conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen from Finland. Later they were joined by Mikael Tiden, the former director of the Bervaldhallen.
