Doping tests of more than 60 athletes, including Olympic champions and world champions, showed positive results. This was reported by The New York Times with a reference to the letter from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
“What about positive meldonium doping tests, I can tell you that it was found in 60 samples from January 1 to March 7. And that number continues to grow”- the letter said. The publication notes that the names of some of the athletes are not yet disclosed, because their cases are still subject to review. However, the list includes the skater Pavel Kulizhnikov, the short track skater Semen Yelistratov and the silver medalist in freestyle wrestling David Modzmanashvili (Georgia), as well as the world champion in running Abeba Aregawi (Sweden).
