Scientists established that the pangolins were 4 to 7 meters long and had a massive head and a strong neck.
In the Orenburg Region scientists have found a new five-toed species of the sea pangolin, the ITAR-TASS reports with reference to chairman of the Ulyanovsk branch of the All-Russian Paleontology Society Vladimir Yefimov.
"Study of the found well-preserved skeleton fragments of an earlier unknown species of the plesiosauri that lived at the end of the Cretaceous made it possible to define a new species – Polycotylus sopozcovi sp. Nov", - Mr. Yefimov said.
The new species of the plesiosauri was named after the chief author of the find - the head of the Young Geologists and Ecologists Club of the city of Orsk, the geologist Galina Sopotsko.
The new species of pangolins has already been officially registered.
