Two thirds of all Russian banks - 525 credit institutions - have completed 11 months with a profit totaling 658.3 billion roubles, as TASS reported on Monday, December 21, referring to the data of the Central Bank.
The size of the total income has dropped by 18 percent, as compared to the same period of the previous year. 211 credit institutions incurred losses in the amount of 393.7 billion roubles. In January-November of last year the number of unprofitable banks did not change drastically, but the size of losses increased more than five-fold. Following the results of 11 months of 2014, 202 banks incurred losses in the amount of 75 billion roubles.
In mid-November the Head of Sberbank German Gref called the situation on the Russian banking market “the largest banking crisis” over the last 20 years.
