The first New Year’s tree of the country was solemnly lit at the V All-Russian Festival “Winter Begins from Yakutia” at the Ordzhonikidze Square. The festive event was attended by the Head of Administration and the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Yuri Kupriyanov, the Mayor of Yakutsk Aisen Nikolayev, the Chairman of the Yakutsk City Duma Aleksandr Savvinov, Father Frost from Veliky Ustyug, Kysh Babai from Tatarstan, Chyskhaan, Khaarchaana and the Beauty Winter.

Despite the cold, the colorful New Year performance was attended by a large number of children and adults who saw theatrical performance with the participation of fairy-tale characters and symbols of the outgoing and the incoming years - sheep and monkeys. According to the established good tradition, the symbol of cold was transferred by Chyskhaan to Father Frost from Veliky Ustyug.
