Ukraine stopped buying electricity in Russia in connection with the termination of construction works on the Rovenskaya nuclear power plant. This information is contained in the message of “Ukrenergo”. The company noted that the capacity of the nuclear power plant was limited to 1.8 gigawatts, because the power line from the NPP to Kiev was being prepared for connection.

“During the period when the capacity of the nuclear power plant was decreased, the shortage of energy was compensated through the use of additional capacities of thermal power stations and partially – through the imported electricity from Russia” – “Ukrenergo” explained. On November 12 “Ukrenergo” declared that it was ready to stop buying electricity.

The termination of the import of electricity from Russia was announced by the Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Vladimir Demchishin on November 9. He admitted that the country could completely abandon the supplies on November 11th.
