Russian government does not intend to establish military bases in Cuba, the head of the Latin America Department at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
"It has been absolutely out of question!" - Alexander Shchetinin emphasized.
He pointed out that in Russia's relations with the countries of Latin America one of the most demanded matters is supply and logistic support of the Russian helicopter equipment. The Russian suppliers are presently considering the issue of establishing such helicopter repair stations in Cuba, Mr. Shchetinin said.
The department head also stated that Russia is not going to change its policy vis-a-vis Cuba because of the latter building bridges with the USA. According to him, Cuba remains a friendly state to Russia, and the government of Cuba is deliberately patching up relations with the USA.
