It was proposed to equate the military service in the armies of the countries conducting the policy that is unfriendly towards Russia to treason against the State. The corresponding amendments are prepared by the member of the “United Russia” party in the State Duma Evgeny Fedorov.

      The lawmaker proposes to add a new provision to the Article 275 of the Criminal Code “Treason against the State” which will provide for punishment of the citizens of Russia for their service in the armed forces of the countries who adopted sanctions or other discriminatory measures in respect of the Russian Federation, its citizens and businesses. Fedorov specified that he proposed to introduce criminal liability for “providing financial, material, technical, advisory or other assistance to a foreign state”. By this he means, in particular, the service of the Russian citizens in armed groups, including non-state ones, for example, military campaigns of the states whose activities are directed against the security of Russia. The countries, whose activity is directed against Russia today are those imposing sanctions, according to the parliamentarian.
