The Head of the Federal Supervision Agency for Information Technologies and Communications Aleksandr Zharov stated that Russia needed to create its own messenger during his speech at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). This was reported by TASS.
“We need our own national software platform and services” – Zharov noted, adding that Russia already has its own search engines, social networks and e-mail. The Head of Roskomnadzor called import substitution the main trend of Internet development in the country and stressed that the messenger should focus on the specifics of the Russian market. “Now we use only foreign ones. Our messenger is necessary for reflecting the national identity - it should use the peculiarities of our language” - Aleksandr Zharov stated. According to his estimates, today Russian-language services are used by about 300 million people around the world.
