Spartak Moscow owner is set to sue rivals CSKA Moscow for the fans’ violent behavior at the newly-built stadium during a major showdown on May 17.
Spartak was devastated by CSKA in a derby that saw four goals and a host of missed opportunities for the away team.
The first goal was a deflection off a Spartak defensemen but it was followed by three nice goals later. Chief coach Murat Yakin was threatened by some of the fans during the match.
Leonid Fedun now claims CSKA fans damaged some of the stadium’s equipment and seating.
Earlier, Russia-IC reported that Spartak Moscow officially announced Dmitry Alenichev as the team’s new head coach for the next two seasons.
Alenichev, a former Spartak player, has been tipped to get the job at one of the nation’s most popular team for many months.
He is replacing Murat Yakin who was doomed after a lackluster season, especially after humiliating defeats at the newly built stadium Otkritie.
At a press conference, Dmitry Alenichev thanked the club’s board and personally owner Leonid Fedun, who earlier stepped down as chairman, for the honor.
Alenichev debuted in 1991 for Lokomotiv Moscow, where he played four years before moving to Spartak. During his five-year stint, he won three Russian leagues and two cups, and was also elected Russian player of the year in 1997.
