The television channel “Ryzhiy” for deaf and hearing-impaired children began broadcasting in Russia on June 1, International Children’s Day.
Programs, cartoons and serials shown on the channel are accompanied by sign translation. The channel expects to reach the audience of 1.2 million children aged 4 to 12 years. That’s the number of the children of this age having a hearing impairment, according to the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and the Census. The program schedule of “Ryzihiy” will show 40 percent of cartoons and animated series, about 30 percent will be reserved for feature films and children’s series. All the rest of the time “Ryzhiy” will show educational and entertaining programs of Russian and foreign production.
