The Ministry of Justice has included “The Progress Party” of Aleksei Navalny to the list of political parties that ceased to exist. The entry of “The Progress Party” was removed from the list of the registered political parties on the website of the Ministry of Justice. It was included into the list of parties “in connection to which entries were made concerning termination of activities of the political parties and their regional branches”.
Earlier on May 15 the State Duma passed the amendments to the law "On political parties” in the third reading, according to these, the legal persons not being political parties have no right to use the word “party” in their names. Now the amendments prohibit “The Progress Party” to be called a party. In late April the Ministry of Justice said that the document of the state registration of the party of Navalny was deemed to have lost its force. The information on “The Progress Party” and its structural subdivisions has been removed from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities. The agency explained its decision by the fact that “The Progress Party” registered its offices in 25 regions of Russia after the statutory period of six months. The decision of the Ministry of Justice on the withdrawal of state registration was appealed by “The Progress Party” in the Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow.
