Stanislav Govorukhin Celebrates his 70th Jubilee

People`s Artist of Russia, film director Stanislav Govorukhin turns 70 today.
      
      The famous film director, actor, scriptwriter, and publicist was born on March 29, 1936, in Berezniki town of Perm region. In 1967 he graduated from the directing department of the All-Union State Filmmaking Institute (VGIK).
      
      Govorukhin has directed 11 feature films and 4 publicity films, among them the famous Vertikal (Vertical), Den Angela (Angel`s Day), Desyat` Negrityat (Ten Pickaninnies), Voroshilovsky Strelok (The Voroshilov Sharpshooter), and Ne Khlebom Edinym (Not By Bread Alone) recently broadcasted on the Russian TV. the legendary serial `The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed` (1979) starring Vladimir Vysotsky is considered the ultimate classic. One can hardly remain untouched by his other movies as well, such as The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn (1981), Searching for Captain Grant (1985), Champagne Bubbles (1989), and The Great Criminal Revolution (1994). In addition to directing he also acted in 20 films, including one of the leading parts in Assa directed by Sergey Solovyev and in the recently shot action movie The 9th Troop.
      
      Stanislav Govorukhin is the author of 14 film scripts and 3 books. In the late 1980s he shot the film Alexander Solzhenitsyn, which is a detailed interview with the notable writer about his life and works. Govorukhin is also the author of the feature-documentary film This Is No Way to Live (1990) that won Nika, the prize of The Union of Cinematographers, as the best documentary film of 1990. His other well-known documentaries are `Invasion` and `The Russia We Lost` (1992).
      
      In 1996 he was elected to the Russian State Duma, to be chairman of the Duma Committee on Culture.
