Russia and Iran signed an intergovernmental agreement on military cooperation.
The agreement was signed in Tehran on January 20, as Interfax reports. The agreement was signed by the Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and his Iranian counterpart Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan. “The signing of the intergovernmental agreement on military cooperation today is a significant step in strengthening of these relations. The theoretical basis for cooperation in the military sphere has been established” - Shoigu stated during the agreement signing ceremony. According to the Minister, the parties agreed to expand the practice of visits of warships in the ports of Russia and Iran, to expand the practice of delegation exchange, training of military personnel and experience exchange in peacekeeping and countering terrorism.
