Snow In Rosa Khutor Is Not Enough For Skiing

The “Rosa Khutor” resort announced that the opening of the skiing season expected on December 20 will be held later - as soon as weather conditions will make it possible.

Initially the festival was scheduled for December 12, but due to the warm weather it was postponed until December 20. The next decision to change the date of the opening was taken with regard to the fact that the current state of the snow cover on the resort skiing trails does not allow to fully and safely use them.

“Night temperatures hardly drop below zero degrees, making it impossible to use the snowmaking system” - the press service of “Rosa Khutor” reports. During the previous weeks when the weather permitted, the snowmaking system of the resort produced 200 thousand cubic meters of snow, which made up a good foundation for the ski trails. However, this is not enough to fully prepare the skiing trails. Comfortable and safe skiing requires a minimum level of the artificial snow to make up 30 to 50 cm depending on the complexity, slope and area of a skiing trail. At the moment the thickness of snow on trails even in the upper part of the complex (below the mark of Rosa-1600) ranges from 15 to 30 centimeters. The inequalities of microrelief are not covered with a sufficient layer of snow, which makes skiing unsafe.
