The tourism tax may become a significant source of revenue for the regions heavily dependent on the federal budget, the first deputy head of the Federation Council Committee on Budget and Financial Markets Vladimir Petrov said.
“An essential source of replenishment of revenues at the regional level may be tourism tax, and the Federation Council has developed a corresponding bill” - Petrov told to reporters. He notes that the regions depend on the federal budget today: “this trend grows stronger every year”, and due to this fact the regional budgets are deficient. According to him, the number of powers transferred to the regions has doubled over the last 10 years and continues to grow, “but these powers are not always accompanied by the necessary budget, and the regions need new sources of revenue”.
