United Russia has proved to be the wealthiest party in Russia as the 2005 fourth quarter reports indicate.
According to Oleg Veliyashev, deputy head of the Central Elections Committee, the accounting period has seen some 264,823,000 roubles donated to the United Russia, the ruling party often described as pro-Kremlin by the Western and national media.
Second place is occupied by the Liberal Democratic Party, led by the whimsical Vladimir Zhirinovsky, with 24, 590,000 in the coffers. Rodina (Motherland) party, denied candidacy for Moscow Duma elections for its nationalist-smacking ad, is third with 31,060,000 roubles followed by Yabloko, 12,361,870 roubles, SPS (Union of Right Forces), 4,405,000 roubles, and Patriots of Russia, 9,168,000 roubles.
Among donors are non-commercial organizations with little transparency in their financial transactions. The Central Elections Committee is expected to focus on them during its upcoming inspections.
Among donation-less parties are Eurasian Union, Regional Development Party, Nature and Society, Social United Party of Russia, Russian Political Party of Peace and Unity, and the Political Party of Social Protection.
