Ancient Jerusalem Icon Stolen from Museum in Voronezh Region

Ancient icon of Jesus Christ has been stolen from school museum of local lore in the New Kurlak Village of the Voronezh Region.

The police have nailed the thief.

The ancient icon appeared in the village as long back as the 19th century - a local resident walked with the relic from Jerusalem in 1890. In 1950 her descendant handed the family icon over to the school museum, and it was kept there till the stealing on the night of February 24 this year.

A 23-year-old local with a previous conviction was among the suspected persons. Practically right after the incident he left the village and was detained by police in Mikhailovka Town of the Volgograd Region.

The suspect gave a confession. The stolen icon was hidden in a haystack near his house in the New Kurlak Village.
