The government of the Russian Federation has approved the “Strategy for preservation of rare and endangered species of animals, plants and fungi”. The document will be valid until 2030.
The minister of natural resources and ecology says that this strategy will help to fight poaching to a great extent. Measures will be taken to protect some certain animal and plant species, which are of great interest for trafficking. These species include Amur tiger, Amur leopard, snow leopard, saiga antelope, large birds of prey (Falconiformes), galanthus, orchids and cyclamen.
The strategy provides a number of special biotechnical measures, increasing number of nursery gardens, fish farms, botanical gardens and arboretums for preservation of rare and endangered species of animals, plants, and fungi. The strategy also implies upgrading of mechanisms for captive animal protection, for instance, animals, saved from trafficking, will become part of reintroduction and relocation programs.
The state will keep record and monitor rare and endangered species of plants and animals and develop international cooperation in this sphere. Authorities also promise to start public awareness campaign in ecology, which helps forming responsible attitude in public towards nature.
