Sun meeting platform may appear in Murmansk.
Murmansk dweller Alexander Pyutsep proposed to build a restaurant with planetarium and arctic museum on the high hill near Murmansk. According to Alexander, the restaurant visitors will be able to observe the first sunrise after the polar night in January and the first sunset in the second half of July after the polar day ends.
In January, all surrounding hills for some time hide from people's eyes the Sun slightly rising above the horizon. But the star can be seen from the top of one of the hills. The project of the Sun meeting platform topped with a semicircular dome has already been drawn up. "With an eye to our natural gifts, the "Midnight Sun" restaurant could be arranged under this dome”, the event organizer said. “Moreover, the Sun takes somewhat unusual route as it moves through the northern sky. For example, in January it rises not in the east, but in the south, and in July it sets not in the west, but in the north. If there was a planetarium opened next to the restaurant, it would be possible to explain to the tourists all these interesting features by visual demonstration. Our northern lights can also be seen here. Murmansk astronomer Viktor Troshenkov learned how to predict them quite accurately 2-3 days before.”
