The film and theater actress Leah Akhedzhakova is among the laureates of the Moscow Helsinki Group Award in 2013.
The actress was awarded a prize in the nomination “For the protection of human rights by means of culture and art”. Last year the award in this nomination was given to the filmmaker Vladimir Sinelnikov.
The awards were also received by the head of the “Sova” human rights centre Alexander Verhovsky - for expert and scientific activities in the field of human rights - and the president of the Independent Psychiatric Association of Russia Yuri Savenko - for historical contribution to the protection of human rights and the human rights movement. The Award of the Moscow Helsinki Group has been given out since 2009. The names of the winners are always called on the Human Rights Day - December, 10. The list of the award winners includes the musician Yuri Shevchuk, the lawyers Anna Stavitskaya and Yuri Schmidt, the writer Viktor Shenderovich and the human rights activist Natalya Estemirova murdered in 2009.
