Caucasus branch of "MegaFon” will provide Customs Officers with mobile communications. The Caucasus Branch of "MegaFon" OJSC has become the official supplier of communications services to Krasnodar, Sochi, Belgorod, North Ossetia, Dagestan and Mineralovodskoe customs offices. According to the results of the public tenders, six regional offices of the Federal Customs Service in three federal districts of Russia became the new corporate customers of "MegaFon". The communications provider organized a private data network (VPN) within the frame of the contract in order to link the regional offices with customs points on the border.

A total of 26 VPN-channels of communications were launched. Now the customs officials have access to the services of confidential exchange of information between departments, as well as to video communication. Thanks to technology of fixed-line communications with the use of modern encryption algorithms, Customs Office has its private network reliably protected from unauthorized access.

Today, MegaFon is one of the three largest mobile operators in Russia. Moreover, it is the only company that launched its own network, providing a full range of mobile services across the country. In addition, subsidiaries of MegaFon work in Tajikistan, Abkhazia and South Ossetia.  In June 2010, MegaFon acquired a 100% stake in the company Synterra that allowed them to strengthen their own network infrastructure and their position in the spheres of telecommunications, fixed and mobile broadband Internet access (BBA), and converged services.
