Rosneft and ExxonMobil are en route to choose the contractor for design and engineering work for their LNG project in the Russian Far East.

The Russian and US oil giants plan to complete design work by 2014, which includes selecting the appropriate liquefaction technology, performing engineering surveys, developing Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) and drafting specifications for the LNG plant, hydro-technical marine facilities and a source gas pipeline, as well as performing the environmental impact assessment.

The capacity of the LNG facility to be located on Sakhalin Island is expected to be 5 million tons per year.
