The US authorities have given the historical documents stolen at the beginning of the 1990s back to the Russian Federation. Michel McFaul, the US ambassador to Russia, has handed eight writings, including several edicts of Catherine II and Alexander I, a letter from Empress Catherine to count Michel Kakhovsky, as well as a decree of Emperor Nicholas II, over to the Russian party.

The letter from composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky to Konstantin Zvyagintsev is considered the most valuable of all the documents returned. Besides, the American part has promised to pass some more Russian historical artifacts found in the USA to the Russian Federation.
