The Dolls Museum in St. Petersburg introduces visitors to archaic images of people and deities embodied in dolls, characters inspired by heathen beliefs of ancient people, and their ideas of nature.
Original examples of material culture, in particular the artifacts found during excavations at Pazyryk Barrows, have provided basis for creative projects of artists who tried to reproduce whimsical ornaments, refined clothes and decorations of the ancients.
Altogether the exposition includes about 40 exhibits: dolls made of textiles and a dry papier-mache, as well as quilt panel pictures.
The exhibition runs till September 9.
