Ruarts Gallery in Moscow has opened a personal exhibition of the artist Simeon Agroskin.
Simeon Agroskin's exhibition Reconstruction unites the artist’s works from painting series of different years since the end of the 1990s.
But all the things for the exhibition have been painted in 2013 based on old photos and reproductions. The motivation of the reconstruction is simple: to recreate pictures which were kept in the Manege Gallery and then got burned down together with it and the Big Manege nearly 10 years ago.
At that time people were more concerned about the ruining of Bettencourt, a monument of planned building of postfire Moscow, and the victory of Luzhkov’s methods of construction, rather than about the loss of several dozen paintings by Moscow artists.
The regret about the lost paintings was just slightly expressed in a couple of publications. But Agroskin’s works did not disappear completely. According to photos and sketches he restores old things for the Reconstruction project, and today this peculiar retrospective allows speaking about a whole collection of paintings by Simeon Agroskin, the artist who mainly works in series.
The exhibition runs till June 22.
