Opening ceremony of the Museum of Patriotic War of 1812 took place in the State History Museum of Moscow on September 4.

From September 6 Muscovites and guests of the capital will have a chance to plunge into the atmosphere of 1812: see Kutuzov's notes, an ashtray made of a hoof of Denis Davidov’s horse, Napoleon's sabre, a throne chair of Emperor Alexander I and many other things.

The new museum with 1800 exhibits has settled down in the historical quarter between Nikolsky Square and the Revolution Square, in the blocked yard between the former building of the Municipal Duma (Lenin's museum) and the New Mint.

Three quarters of the display area (2 thousand sq m) are occupied with a permanent exposition, and the rest of the museum space will be given to temporary exhibitions.

The first of them is the well-known series of V. V. Vereschagin’s paintings dedicated to the Patriotic War of 1812.
