Shchusev State Museum of Architecture opens the permanent exhibition Non-Happened Future on June 19.
The central place in it will belong to the model of the Big Kremlin Palace designed by architect Vasily Bazhenov and never constructed; the implementation of this project was connected with the plans of Yekaterina II to construct in the Kremlin a huge palace, which would drastically change the image of the entire Kremlin architectural complex and Red Square. Its foundation was laid in 1773; however, the construction works were stopped two years later. The model made of wood is of impressive size – it is more than 17 meters long, 10 meters wide and higher than a man.
However, in the museum one will see only the most interesting fragments of this project, which has long been kept in the museum storeroom and has been gradually being restored – it cannot be displayed fully due to absence of a premise large enough.
