A 83-year-old diver in Australia has found a bottle with a message in it, which was thrown into the sea in 2009 by prominent Russian traveller Fyodor Konyukhov. This story was told by Oscar Konyukhov, his son and also a traveller, on the official website.
In January 2009, the Konyukhov's crew of eight people, including Oscar Konyukhov, sailed in a yacht from Australia to South America and the Falkland Islands. After successfull passing Cape Horn at the tip of South America, the crew decided to celebrate this by drinking a bottle of Jacob’s Creek wine. Then they wrote a message documenting their travel, put it into the bottle and threw into the sea.
The bottle with message travelled more than 17,000km across the Atlantic and Indian oceans to reach Australia. There it was found on the beach of the town of Beachport in South Australia by 83-year-old Mick Jordan, a professional diver.
The most interesting thing is that the bottle was thrown into the water on February 12, 2009 and it was found exactly three years later - on February 12, 2012. And the region where the bottle ended his journey was just 400km from the Jacob’s Creek winery in «The Barossa Valley» where it was produced. Mick Jordan says it is only four hours drive from his house.
"Well, as they say, it's a small world", Oscar Konykhov has commented.
