The Head of the Astrakhan Region has come up with a creative idea for the Olympic Flame transfer through his region on the way to Sochi.

      Astrakhan Region borders on the Republic of Kalmykia, and camel races is a unique and popular traditional sportive event in this area. No other region in Russia or Europe know this kind of pastime, hence Astrakhan authorities thought it would serve as a special introduction to Russia and its multicultural heritage.

      The Head of the region's administration, Alexander Zhilkin has asked his subordinates to "creative approach the task".

      The Olympic Torch will pass through the Astrakhan Region in two years' time, on 27 and 28 of January 2014.
