On 14 September, Wednesday, Dmitri Kamenshchik, Chairman of the Board of EAST LINE Group, presented the Programme of development of Domodedovo International Airport for 2005-2007 and further prospects.
      Alexander Neradko, Head of the Federal Agency of Transport Supervision, representatives of about 100 Russian and foreign airlines, more than 50 transport and tourist companies, analysts and experts of consulting agencies took part in the event that was held in the domestic flights departure area.
      The Programme of development under the heading “Building for the future” covered nearly all airport activities and first of all development of the Domodedovo airport complex as one of the flagships of the entire Russian airport industry. Among the features of the presented programme is the planned volume of investments in the construction of the airport complex, which is around USD 500 million for the next five years. The average level of annual investments amounts to USD 120-150 million.
      The top-priority projects at Domodedovo include:
      • doubling the area of the Passenger Terminal;
      • certification of all runways in accordance with the ICAO Category III requirements;
      • extension of parking facilities,
      • installation of a new baggage-separation system with a higher level of aviation security.
      A range of services for air passengers will be extended in 2006 and will include unique and exotic services. A minihotel will be opened for transfer passengers. And all categories of visitors will be welcome to a trade and entertainment centre “Domodedovo Plaza”, a cinema complex, and “a cafe on the roof” with view points that will provide an opportunity to observe flights of aircraft.
      The Programme pays particular attention to a qualitative development of all companies of the airport complex. Recognizing growth in number of airlines based at the airport and a necessity to provide food for passengers, it is planned to increase the capacity of the Domodedovo Air Service Catering Facility by means of extending its area to 8,000 sq.m. and raising production volumes through implementation of new technologies.
      Implementation of new technologies is of particular urgency for the development of cargo transportation. Cargo Terminal plans to create an integrated system of cargo handling on the basis of declaration in electronic form, automated control of vehicles movements and bar-coding.
      Another important part of the Programme of development of the airport complex is non-aviation business. In the near-term it is planned to construct a new four-star hotel, logistic centers in the adjacent to the airport area and an educational and training centre for air staff.
      “Today priority is given to the enhancement of the airport infrastructure on the basis of modernization of the system of the quality management and implementation of new technologies. In the end, development of the airport industry will depend on qualitative development of the largest Russian airports,” said Dmitri Kamenshchik, Chairman of the Board, EAST LINE Group.
