Another Comet Discovered by Russian Scientists
The new comet

Russian astronomers officially announced the discovery of a new short-period comet, which was named P/2011 NO1. This is the second comet, discovered by the Russians within recent seven months.

The comet C/2010 X1 was discovered by Leonid Elenin in December 2010. This comet was the first cosmic body of a kind, discovered by a Russian astronomer since 1990. Current comet P/2011 NO1 is also discovered by Elenin, who used images taken by ISON-NM automated observatory.

The cosmic body was discovered on July 7, 2011, however, it took the Centre of Small Planets a long time to acknowledge the body was a comet. However, its “cometness” was confirmed by ARI observatory in USA and Faulkes telescope in Australia.
