23 Director Generals of Railways from 16 countries are attending the Conference. Vladimir Yakunin, the President of Russian Railways public corporation, is the head of the corporation’s delegation.
The aim of the traditional professional forum held annually since 2000 is to make closer connections among the Directors of European railways as well as to discuss the future cooperation.
Russia is hosting the Conference for the first time. Russia was chosen due to the successful railway transport reform, the key position of Russian Railways public corporation in providing Euro-Asian container traffic, and the high prestige of the corporation among the world railway companies.
23 Director Generals of Railways from 16 countries are attending the Conference. Vladimir Yakunin, the President of Russian Railways public corporation, will be the head of the corporation’s delegation. He will report on ‘The integration of Russian railways into the Euro-Asian transport system’.
There will also be bilateral meetings and negotiations in the framework of the Conference. In particular, Vladimir Yakunin plans to have a meeting with Hartmud Medorn, the Chairman of the Administration of German Railway. The parties are to discuss the foundation of a joint enterprise for providing freight traffic, the project for electronic data exchange, and other issues.
On 3 September at 13:30 in the conference hall of Baltic Star hotel in St. Petersburg, Vladimir Yakunin and Hartmud Medorn will give a press-conference devoted to the results of the Conference of Director Generals of European railways.
